A project isn’t just perfect if you don’t have a back-up plan.
In case I could not stay with the people who I’m going to work with, I need a backup plan. In that case I can count on the thousands of people on CouchSurfing.com.
But… I am not so familiar with this project so I had to gain some information. For that I arranged some informational meetings using CouchSurfing.com.
Last week I met some people who where willing to give me a lot of information: what to do on CouchSurfing, what not to do, how you can save time searching for a couch while you are busy working, how the CouchSurfing community works, etc.
So Patrick, Elise and Ben, I thank you all very much for the information you give me! I really hope we can end up seeing each other after I travelled around as The Graphic Nomad and complete my project.

September 30, 2012 at 10:13 amIndeed!I used Sofia, Bulgaria for a couple of years, then Cancun for about a year, then Bogota, and then back to Cancun.I prfeer it to backpacking because yes, I have stuff I don’t like lugging around in backpacks, but perhaps more importantly for me is the whole immersion travel aspect. I prfeer to read the whole novel, not just skim-read a destination while skipping hostel to hostel, city to city, and by living in a place for a couple of years you learn the language, know the people, make friendships, find business relationships, employment opportunities, and you really get into the culture of a place and its people. All of that is impossible only going 3-4 days per place, or even 3-4 weeks per location. Granted, not everyone enjoys long-term immersion travel, but it’s my personal prfeerence! Thanks for the comment, Adela!
